Four Things to Check in ChatGPT's Privacy Center
How to open ChatGPT's new Privacy Center and check Memory, model improvement, temporary chat and multi-factor authentication.
ChatGPT now has a Privacy Center. It explains your privacy settings in plain language and links to each one, so you can find them all in one place. This guide shows you how to open it and four things worth checking. It only takes a few minutes.
How to open the Privacy Center
- On the web: open your account menu, then Help, then Privacy center.
- On your phone: open Settings, then Privacy Center.
Just opening it doesn't change any settings. You decide what to change, if anything.
1. Memory
Here's the key thing to know: deleting a chat doesn't automatically delete a memory that was saved from it. So if you want ChatGPT to stop using something, check your saved memories as well as your chat history.
2. Improve the model for everyone
This setting lets eligible personal accounts choose whether their content helps improve OpenAI's models. You can turn it on or off.
Turning it off doesn't delete your chats or remove them from your history.
3. Temporary chat
Temporary chats don't create or update memories, as long as they stay temporary. They're handy when you want to ask something without it being saved to memory. To start one from the Privacy Center:
- Tap Temporary chat, then New temporary chat.
4. Multi-factor authentication
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) means you need a second check, as well as your password, to sign in. The Privacy Center covers MFA and links to the setting, so you can see whether it's on for your account.
What else it covers
- Personalised ads (Free and Go plans).
- Location.
- Plugins and apps.
- Exporting or deleting your data.
Good to know
- The Privacy Center is rolling out to Free, Go, Plus, Pro and Business, on web, iOS and Android. Because it's still rolling out, you might not see it on your account yet.
- Opening the Privacy Center doesn't change any settings.
- Deleting a chat doesn't automatically delete a memory saved from it.
- The Improve the model for everyone choice is for eligible personal accounts.
- The personalised ads section is for Free and Go plans.
